What is Civil Engineering?

Civil engineers have one of the world's greatest jobs: they build the quality of life. With technical and creative skills, the civil engineers plan, design, construct and operate the infrastructure required to modern civilization, ranging from highways and bridges to water treatment plants and energy efficient buildings. 
Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, overcrowded traffic, drinking water and energy needs, community planning and urban development.


The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) defines Civil Engineering as..
 "The profession in which the knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the progressive well-being of humanity in creating, improving and protecting the environment, in providing facilities for community living, industry and transportation, and in providing structures for the use of humanity."

A civil engineer has to plan out, design and supervise the construction & maintenance of various types of structures. He/she posses good knowledge of mathematics and science. Also, He must also have good supervisory and administrative skills.

Furthermore, he must be ready to sweat it out at construction sites and even work under stressful and hostile conditions. And if you think you fit then civil engineering is the best profession for you.
