Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) , India's Largest distance education university is planning to launch 40+ new courses in the coming three years. In 2020 and 2021 Ignou has launched more than 12 Online and 14 Open Distance Learning (ODL) Programs. In January 2022 it has launched 7 Online and 15 ODL Programs. It comprises of Skilled Courses and new degree programmes. These programs helped students a lot in the pandemic situation.

Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Nagheswar Rao said that IGNOU is seeing a vigorous growth and Wide spread changes in Pandemic period. The training programmes took place through three SWAYAM Prabha Direct to home (DTH) 24 hours channels. Covid 19 has brought several changes in the Indian Educational System. Online Learning has become so popular and long lasting feature these days.

IGNOU is more relevant for online Learners because it has online channels already to reach enthusiastic learners any time.The usage of Mobile apps and TV channels has gone up significantly.IGNOU also has its own mobile app which was launched in 2018 and has seen more than 16 lakh downloads.Huge online archive helped learners to recollect the information and also to learn missing topics information.

In 2020 University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed 58 instituions to offer online programs and IGNOU is one among them. Currently IGNOU has more than 34 online programmes. IGNOU has introduced new courses in popular education standards. It has also appointed 300 faculty members to conduct research and development in new course curriculum ensuring to meet the industry standards and learners requirements effectively.

Along with new courses introduction existing programmes have been updated and restructured. Some of the courses are re-introduced with revised modules as per skilled industry requirement demands.Currently Industry is looking for modern skills so courses need Technological Interventions with creative presentations. 

IGNOU is seeing innovation and experimentation in the teaching- learning process by using their own Web-Enabled Academic Support (WEAS) platform that connects teachers and learners. IGNOU also uses the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) translation tool that ensures enthusiastic learners to learn courses in their own Mother Tongue with out hassles. It helps to reach unreached learners to continue their education in their own language.

IGNOU has also created a portal to connect 36 lakh alumnis to register, participate, engage and contriute the teaching-learning process. Most of the learners are going for online programmes.this shows that online education holds strong in India. ODL programs are promoted through social media that creates visibility and translating towards technology that helps learners to learn their subject of their choice by sitting at home.
