31- Lakh students attended Open- air learning sessions as a part of Paray Shikshalay project.

As a part of "Paray Shikshalay" (Education Center at your locality) 31 Lakh students from Class one to seven turned up across 75,000 venues across West Bengal on First day of the open-air learning session on Monday. The Session was held either on open ground or in a locality. The aim of this project initiative is to encourage students who dorpped out of schools during Covid-19 Pandemic to continue their education.

Open-air learning Sessions

In Kolkata alone around 21,000 students has attended open-air Classes at 531 venues. As the state government declared a half-day holiday to mourn the death of famous singer Latha Mangeshkar, The open-air sessions were held across various venues from 10.30 AM to 1 PM. In Urban areas local councellors and MLAs helped at setting up Infrastructure( Arranging Makeshift shades and chairs) and in rural areas Panchayat Representatives came to support for the session by following Covid-19 safety measures and wear masks all the time. Benches and blackboards were placed to provide a real classroom experience.

The Project "Paray Shikshalay" was mainly meant for primary school students (Classes 1 to 5) which was announced on January 24. However the students of Classes 6 and 7 were included later as direct physical education did not reopen for High School children. Schools in West Bengal for Classes 8 to 12 was reopened from February 3. Students of various classes are called in small group of batches and even mid-day meals arrangement have also been made
