Teaching Kids to Think Book Review

Book Summary

Teaching Kids to Think is a book that is filled with many different layers. The first part of the book discusses many different parents and parenting styles along with issues that might come along with it. For example, while we may think being overprotective is creating a safe place for children, in the long run, this can lead to issues.

As the chapters continue, the book starts off with a story as well as context about how to overcome the situations. The text provides both issues and resolutions seen as well as more example of what we can do as parents to help our children.

Teaching Kids to Think ends of with many priorities we are missing in the digital age. We as a group need to learn to connect with each other and provide ways in which failures are okay.

Be a Scientist

According to Teaching Kids to Think, one of the best ways to help children learn, is to help them fail. In my class we treat every child as a scientist. When they fail, we go over to them and ask them how they can re-create the situation and handle it differently.

Most kids can tell you scientists fail, try again, fail, and try again until they succeed. If every child is a scientist, they are not really failing, but rather they are improving the ways they go about their days.

I have seen major improvements in social, emotional, and academic health.

My Overall Opinion

While I have always treated my students like scientists, I have not been met with the exact support I need from my parents. At the same time, there were some imporvements I needed to make. After reading Teaching Kids to Think, I was not only able to revise my methods to better help my students, but I now have more tools to help my parents support my teaching methods. This book is amazing. It is a great resource for both teachers and parents.

I received Teaching Kids to Think in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were in no way influenced by outside sources. This post contains Amazon Affiliate links.
