Exploring Los Angeles in the Summertime

A Guide for Online Students in LA Area

Summer break is here, and it’s the perfect time for students and their families to enjoy local adventures! California Pacific Charter Schools is an online public school that serves 15 counties across the state of California.

We wanted to kick off the break by sharing some ideas for summer fun!  We’ll start with our Los Angeles scope, which serves Kern County, Los Angeles County, Ventura County, or San Bernardino County.  Numerous family-friendly activities and destinations are waiting to be explored, so let’s get into it!

Beach Bliss

Nothing says summer like a day at the beach. Fortunately, Southern California offers an abundance of stunning coastal destinations, making it the ideal place to soak up the sun and make sandcastles with your family.

Santa Monica Beach (Los Angeles County) is a classic choice, known for its iconic Santa Monica Pier and lively atmosphere. The pier offers amusement rides, games, and delicious food options, making it a perfect spot for a fun-filled day by the ocean!

If you want a more serene beach experience, venture to Zuma Beach (Ventura County). With its pristine shoreline and picturesque views, Zuma Beach is perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and even building sandcastles. The vast expanse of sandy shore allows for plenty of space for families to spread out and enjoy a day of relaxation.

Cultural Exploration

Southern California is a melting pot of diverse cultures, and summer break provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in everything it offers!

The Getty Center (Los Angeles County) is a world-renowned art museum that should not be missed! This architectural masterpiece houses an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, photography, and more. As you explore the galleries, you can also take in some breathtaking views of Los Angeles.

The California Science Center (Los Angeles County) is a must-visit destination for curious minds – it’s also a favorite field trip location among our students! With its interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, the center offers a fascinating exploration of various scientific disciplines. Don’t forget to catch a glimpse of the Space Shuttle Endeavour while you are there!

The Kern County Museum (Kern County) takes visitors on a journey through the region’s history. The museum features historic buildings, artifacts, and a re-created pioneer village, allowing families to step back in time and experience life as it was in the past. It’s a perfect blend of education and entertainment.

Nature Escapes

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and reconnect with nature at these stunning outdoor locations. There’s nothing that says summer like an exploration of the outdoors, and there is no better place to do it than Southern California! The diverse landscapes offer endless opportunities for outdoor adventures!

Joshua Tree National Park (San Bernardino County) is an iconic desert oasis. Famous for its unique Joshua trees and otherworldly rock formations, the park offers fantastic hiking trails that wind through its vast expanse. Take in the stunning scenery, get in some rock climbing, and revel in the beauty of the starry night sky.

Griffith Observatory (Los Angeles County) is an iconic landmark that combines education and stunning views. Situated in Griffith Park, the observatory provides an opportunity to explore the universe’s wonders. Visitors can use telescopes to observe celestial bodies, explore informative exhibits, and enjoy the panoramic views of Los Angeles during the day or the twinkling stars at night.

For a coastal nature escape, Channel Islands National Park (Ventura County) is just the spot! Accessible by boat via Santa Barbara, these islands offer a pristine and untouched environment. Families can embark on a memorable adventure, hiking scenic trails, kayaking in crystal-clear waters, and exploring the diverse marine life found in this protected ecosystem.
