Finding a School-Life Balance

School and life can be hard, and it is so important to make sure that you keep your life Balanced so you are able to maintain a happy and healthy life!  It can be tempting to overload yourself in one area, but all too often doing this can result in not only neglecting important aspects of your life, but not being able to deliver your best work!

You will find that the more balanced you are the more productive and happier you will be. There are a number of ways you can keep your life balanced, here are just a few:

Set boundaries!

It is important to set specific goals for yourself and keep yourself challenged in school, but it is also vital that you allow yourself time to relax, recharge, and do the things you enjoy. If you are not properly rested and recharged, you will not be able to perform at the level you are capable of!

Find a time where you are most productive to work hard on your schoolwork and once you have completed your assignments for the day, take time for yourself. Read a book, play a sport, spend time with your family, or anything else that brings you joy! Turn your brain off of school for a little bit.

Break it Down

It is easy to become overwhelmed with all of the things we need to accomplish.  Keeping your school goals broken down into mini goals can help you reach small milestones that will keep you motivated and feeling positive.  By setting attainable goals, you are keeping yourself more mentally balanced and not overwhelming yourself with too many things that are in only one category (school, work..etc).

Spread out Your Goals

Have goals for school, work, hobbies, working out, or anything else that helps keep you balanced.  For example, you might set a school goal to work over a school break and be caught up in all of your classes when we return, or you could challenge yourself to get an A in a class you have been struggling in.

On a personal front, you might want to learn a new sport, eat more healthy foods, or find a new project! I recently started learning to knit, and I also have a goal to read 100 books this year. I am on book 68 so I still have a little bit to go, but it has been a very fun goal!

Spreading out your goals helps you mark some important things off your personal checklist while also growing personally and trying some fun new things!

Find the Fun

Life is way more fun when you find what makes you happy.  While it is so important to focus on your schoolwork and do well, it is also crucial that you balance yourself with fun activities.  Find something fun! Finding the fun can also be a great motivator for completing your coursework. Challenge yourself to complete three assignments and when you are finished, reward yourself with your fun activity.

Balance is Key

There are times when we all struggle with school, work, or life. It is during these times that it is more important than ever to find your balance.  Don’t let yourself get bogged down with the things that are not going well or working, and find something where you can achieve success and feel good!

It might be something simple like making your bed each day, but as you accomplish something and feel positive about what you have done, you will find that it starts picking up your spirits and making you feel better.  When it comes to online school, talk to your homeroom teacher and let them help you set mini goals and cheer you on.
