The Start of the New Year Brings a Fresh Start

The Start of a New Year Brings a Fresh Start

The New Year is here!!!  It is a time to look back on the year that has past and anticipate and plan for the year ahead.  New Years often comes with long to-do lists and big resolutions, but all too often once the end of January rolls around, we find that the list we made on New Years is beginning to collect dust.

While dreaming big is amazing, it’s also important to set realistic and achievable goals.  A great way to do that is to look inward and think about how you work best.  This is key for accomplishing goals, and is also a huge aspect of achieving success in your Calpac coursework!  A great way to get started is by practicing the three R’s: Reflect, Refresh, and Restart.

Reflect

The end of a year is filled with reflection – looking back on the past twelve months and taking stock of what you accomplished, the memories you made, anmd even the missteps that may have happened along the way.  All of these moments, good and bad, are a part of your journey and they can help shape the path ahead of you in this new year.

Refresh

This time is also a great time to refresh, both physically and mentally!  You can start this new year off by refreshing your environment – do you have a space where you do your virtual courses at home?  Start the year off by doing a deep clean of your space, you can even try switching your spot or rearranging your existing one around a bit to bring a new perspective.

It’s important to come into the New Year mentally refreshed as well!  Hopefully you took the time over the winter break to rest and regroup and you are coming back to your online classes refreshed and ready to wrap up the first semester.  Try implementing a moment of mindfulness into your daily routine – especially in the mornings.  Read through our article on Managing Stressful Times for tips on meditating so that you can start this year off mentally refreshed!

Restart

Now that you have reflected and refreshed, it’s time to restart!  This can mean restarting something you attempted in the last year but didn’t quite finish, or it can mean starting something completely new.  Oftentimes, we can let fear keep us from the starting line – we think we aren’t capable or think that it is too late for us to begin.

This mindset can only keep you from reaching your goals and being the best you can be.  It can be a hard mindset to shake, but allow your reflections on the things you have been able to achieve give you the courage to go after your goals!  Here at CalPac, we firmly believe in second chances and fresh starts, and we have seen our online students do incredible things when they are empowered to restart!

Setting Your Goals With School In Mind

Will this year be a year of personal growth and goal setting? Or will you continue on the same, uninspired track as in years past?

“Accomplishment will prove to be a journey, not a destination.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower

We understand that different circumstances, family dynamics, and the like can present obstacles and road blocks that seem difficult to overcome. Are you behind in credits? Do you wish you were receiving a better grade in a course this semester? Did you miss out on a certain elective course because you weren’t confident that you’d succeed?Allow this new year to be one of positive change, renewed motivation, and a clean slate. We’ve only got a few more days of this semester – finish strong!

See It and Believe It

Where do you want to be in 2 weeks? 2 months? 2 years? What goals do you have for yourself this year and beyond? Try making a vision board! Go through old magazines, newspapers, or photos you have and look for encouraging words and inspirational pictures, like the logo of a college you’d like to attend or the job you’d like to have someday. Cut them out and glue then to a piece of paper or poster board. Put your Vision Board somewhere you’ll see it often. It will be a constant reminder of where you want to go someday and how you “plan” to get there!

Ask for Help

Many students are either too shy or too afraid to ask for help from their peers, teachers, or counselors. We have an exceptional team of teachers and school leaders who are here to help you succeed – take advantage of it!  Whether you need help planning how to tackle your coursework or are struggling with a personal problem, CalPac is here to make sure you can be the best version of yourself.  Reach out to your homeroom teachers or a CalPac counselor.

Get Moving

Did you know that getting moving may help improve your academic performance? The CDC states that regular Physical Activity can promote psychological well- being, help improve academic achievement and grades, and can even influence your concentration and attentiveness in class!  This is even more important

It’s clear that physical health has an enormous effect on your mental and emotional well being. Eating well, getting adequate sleep at night, and engaging in physical activity will only help your performance in the classroom. So get moving and hey, you might even earn some credit for your PE classes!

Happy New Year CalPac!

We hope some of these tools will help you get your new year started off the right way!  We are so looking forward to all the fun and exciting things CalPac has in store for our virtual students this year.  Happy New Year!
