The Benefits of Field Trips
Field Trips are incredibly beneficial to students of all ages! Not only are they fun, but by bringing lesson plans to life, Field Trips help students connect the dots and form an understanding of the real life application of the concepts they are learning in the classroom.
They also allow for socialization opportunities! As a fully online school, CalPac values giving our virtual students the opportunity to gather with their peers in a supervised and school sponsored event. It also gives them a chance to make new friends with students they have yet to meet.
According to Professor Jay P. Green’s study at the University of Arkansas “students learn quite a lot” from field trips – particularly enriching field trips. These contribute to the development of students into civilized young adults who possess a greater knowledge about “art, have stronger critical-thinking skills, exhibit increased historical empathy, display higher levels of tolerance, and have a greater taste for consuming art and culture.”

CalPac offers a variety of field trip opportunities, both virtual and in-person, to all students throughout the year!
Virtual Field Trips
As a fully online school, it is important to us that we make participation in field trips as flexible and accessible as our online curriculum! Throughout the school year, CalPac teachers host virtual field trip opportunities open to all of our online students to attend via Zoom. Here are just a few examples:
Día de los Muertos Virtual Field Trip
Every year, CalPac spanish teacher Señora Canosa hosts a virtual Day of the Dead celebration, where she walks our online students through the history, traditions, and meaning of Día de los Muertos – all while donning traditional sugar skull makeup!
NASA AEE Virtual Field Trip
Just this past month, CalPac elementary teacher Mrs. Caprio hosted a virtual field trip for our 3rd and 4th grade students all about the moon! Facilitated by a NASA Education Specialist, this one-hour interactive program allowed our online elementary students to experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in action.
From educational experiences to online tours, CalPac students have ample opportunity to participate in the fun of field trips in an online environment!
In-Person Field Trips
In addition to online field trips, CalPac also offers school sponsored in-person field trips as well! Allowing our students and their families to gather outside of the virtual classroom is an incredibly valuable school experience – which is why prioritize offering multiple in-person opportunities throughout the school year like graduation ceremonies, grad night, and of course, field trips!
From whale watching, to aquarium visits, to tours of the USS Midway, CalPac teachers host a variety of educational in-person field trips throughout the school year that are open to all students!
