Celebrating Red Ribbon Week at CalPac

Oct 23rd-31st marks Red Ribbon Week!  The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation.  Red Ribbon Week is a way for individuals, communities, student bodies, and more to take a stand against drugs.

California Pacific Charter School’s is dedicated to safety and education of our students.  We are proud to join the Red Ribbon Campaign in taking a stand against drugs.

What is the Red Ribbon Campaign?

The Red Ribbon campaign began in 1985 as a response to the death of US DEA agent, Enrique Camarena.  As a man who stood tall in the fight against drugs, Camarena’s death angered and saddened many across the country.

His death spurred parents and youth in communities across the nation to wear red ribbons as a symbol to bring awareness to the destruction caused by drug use.

When Camarena joined the DEA, he explained to his mother – who attempted to talk him out of the decision – that he was “only one person” but he “wanted to make a difference”.

The Red Ribbon Campaign echoes Camarena’s belief that it just takes one person to make a change.  Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a symbol to mobilize communities to educate and encourage drug prevention, particularly among their youth.
