Brain Breaks

Brain Breaks

By Ms. Caryn Masters

Did you know that no matter what age you are, your body needs exercise and rest? This includes your brain! Have you ever noticed that after doing school work for a few hours you feel tired or less focused? Well, you weren’t imagining it. Your Brain was tired! To help your brain function at its highest level, try adding brain breaks to your day.

Brain breaks help you refocus. You do this by taking a break from what you’re doing and giving your brain a rest. You can do something relaxing like drawing or listening to music, or you can get up and move. Exercise stimulates blood flow throughout your body which helps reduce stress, making it easier to focus. Some favorite brain break activities are dancing, singing, taking a walk, riding a bike, stretching and playing outside.

Whether you choose to relax or incorporate exercise to give your brain a break, the results are the same. You will be refreshed, less stressed, better focused and ready to tackle your school work. It is best to schedule your brain break before fatigue sets in. You can set aside time in the day for a brain break or take a brain break when you need it. If you’ve never tried a brain break, we highly recommend you do. You will increase your brain power and that feels good!
