- Today (18th May 2020) is the International Museum Day.
- This day is observed every year to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society.
- Theme of International Museum Day 2020 : "Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion"
- India is among 62 countries that have moved a proposal at the World Health Assembly to "identify the zoonotic source" of coronavirus.
- The countries have also asked for an "impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation" to review experience gained and lessons learned from the WHO-coordinated international health response to COVID-19.
- The proposal is part of a seven-page draft resolution.
- Cyclone Amphan, that has been circling over the Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify further into a "super cyclonic storm" in the next 12 hours, the IMD said.
- In Odisha, Amphan is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in some parts from today onwards.
- Israel's parliament has approved PM Benjamin Netanyahu's new unity government with former rival Benny Gantz, ending over a year of political deadlock after three inconclusive elections.
- Netanyahu will be the PM for 18 months before handing over to Gantz.
- The new government was ratified by 73 of 120 members of the Israeli parliament.
- Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his rival Abdullah Abdullah signed a power-sharing deal to end a months-long political stalemate.
- Abdullah would lead the council for peace talks with the Taliban and his team members would be included in cabinet.
