Teams Overview

Nepal:
After a surprise 80-run win over Hong Kong, Nepal were brought down to Earth with a bump by Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Despite being on the wrong end of a seven-wicket defeat, the Nepalese certainly didn't disgrace themselves against their far more experienced opponents.

Their total of 125-5 was admittedly below par but gave them something to bowl at. Paras Khadka was again the pick of the Nepalese batsmen, passing 40 for the second successive game.

The bowling hasn't impressed as much as the batting and the fielding remains, let's be generous and say, enthusiastic.

For Nepal to progress, they'll need to beat Afghanistan convincingly and hope that Hong Kong can pull off a miracle against Bangladesh.

Whatever the outcome on Thursday, Khadka's men will be able to look back on this competition with pride.

Afghanistan:
Afghanistan must be ruing their performance in the opening match against Bangladesh. A nine-wicket thrashing at the hands of the hosts put them behind the proverbial eight-ball in terms of qualifying from the group.

It's still, just, possible for the Afghans to progress to the Super Ten stage but they'll need a ridiculous amount of help along the way. A resounding win against Nepal would be a start

The tone for the opening match defeat was set when opener Mohammad Shahzad holed out on the first ball of the innings. The kamikaze batting continued with the result that the Afghans were skittled for just 71 runs.

Mohammad Nabi's men looked more like the team that impressed in this year's Asia Cup while beating Hong Kong on Tuesday.

A breezy 68 from Shahzad and a brutal 51 from just 24 balls from Shafiqullah steered Afghanistan to a comfortable seven-wicket win with two overs to spare.

Teams Flashback

Afghanistan is coming off a win over Hong Kong after a loss to Bangladesh. Nepal is coming off a loss to Bangladesh after a win over Hong Kong. Both teams are looking for a win to get them in the top spot in their Group A, which would get them into the Super 10 along with the top team in Group B, which consists of Zimbabwe, the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, and Ireland

Prediction

The more experienced Afghanistan team has more power with both bat and ball and should overcome the novices from Nepal.

Whichever team wins will be hoping Bangladesh gets beaten by Hong Kong, a match that will be played four hours after the start of this one in the same stadium.
