Facebook Privacy – Talk With Your Kids

The New Facebook Privacy Setting called “Instant Personalization” is now in effect. The new setting shares your data with non-Facebook websites and is automatically set to “Enabled.”

Pass this around. If your friends don’t do this, they will be sharing info about you as well on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, Pandora, etc.

Now would also be a good time to check the Facebook settings of your kids. While you’re at it, take a look at what they’re posting online and make sure they aren’t posting any sensitive information and material that could come back to bite them later.

Kids have a “no fear” mechanism and don’t always understand the ramifications of their actions.

It used to be that we had to have discussions about alcohol, drugs, and sex. The world is changing and we also need to discuss everything they do online to make sure they are safe now and in the future.

They probably think they know more about it than you do, and they’re probably right this time, but it’s still a good idea to have this talk. Best of luck!
