Celebrating a Century of Education

Wellington Primary School Celebrates 100 Years

St. Anthony’s Primary School in Wellington is about to celebrate a significant milestone, its 100th anniversary. Join them as they take a brief journey through the upcoming festivities, the school’s unique spirit, and its remarkable alumni.

St. Anthony’s is gearing up for a weekend filled with nostalgia and joy. The celebration begins on Friday, October 13th, with a mix and mingle event. On Saturday, the school will host mass and formal photos to capture its rich history, followed by an evening dinner dance for current and former students, staff, and the community.

St. Anthony Primary School’s motto, ‘Small School, Strong Spirit,’ epitomises the close-knit, family-like atmosphere of the school. Despite its city location, the school offers a unique and intimate educational experience.

The school has produced notable alumni, including Victoria Taylor, co-founder of Tory & Ko bespoke jewellers, and Stefan Lepionka, co-founder of Charlies Juice. Beverley Wakem, a former Chief Executive of Radio New Zealand (RNZ) and the Ombudsman from 2005 to 2015, is also a proud graduate.

The school’s history is intertwined with Seatoun’s development. It began as a parish in 1919, and in 1923, the current school/church building was blessed and opened. The school has seen it all, from air raid drills during the 1940s to the biannual bazaars organised by the ‘Church Friends’ group to support the school and church community.

St. Anthony’s Primary School’s centenary celebration is not just a tribute to 100 years of education but a celebration of community, values, and enduring spirit. This school remains a beacon of learning and unity in Seatoun, Wellington. Here’s to another century of excellence and inspiration!
