West Coast Life Education Van Auctioned off

Since 1988 Harold the giraffe has been entertaining primary aged children for many years, some children even say it’s the highlight of their school years. Harold the giraffe has been based in multiple Life Education vans and tours around the country
to educate children on various different topics.

According to the NZHerald, the West Coast based Life Education van is being auctioned off after it started to develop rust. The West Coast Trust for Life Education was founded in 2005 and is in one of the most isolated regions in the country, due to
this the West Coast doesn’t get as much funding as other regions for their Life Education sources. From a NZHerald article, Life Education West Coast Trust operations manager Suzi Taylor says,

“We’re a wee bit isolated here; that sort of thing is major if our truck breaks down – it’s a big problem for us

“If the truck is being driven heaps it helps [against rust], but if it sits at a school for two weeks the truck doesn’t get on the road.”

Luckily for the West Coast a second hand van was available for purchase from the head office, where Harold is now happily living.

The Life Education van is available for auction on Trade Me with a closing date on the 28th of August.
