Benefits of preparing after knowing syllabus

Yes Of course! Means why Not!

There is a philosophy Japanese people use If someone has done it, You can do it too. If Nobody has done it, You must do it!

If you have seen previous years toppers, there are many who have cracked the exams in their first attempt.

But it is surely different to crack the exam in the first attempt and crack it within a year.

Those first attempters are probably someone who already has a little idea or any background of a civil servant in relation or they had been studying or dreaming for it since years.

If you are completely new to this area, with no idea of the exam with no background as such. You are going to have some difficulties at the start.

For an average serious aspirant

2 Months of focused studies are required for Prelims

6–8 Months for Mains which include 2–3 times of revisions

UPSC can be cracked with the preparation of 1 year.

How?

1. Get the official syllabus copy, read it, learn it. Every point from it regarding syllabus.

2. Previous Year’s question papers

3. Read NCERT’s

History New NCERT’s 6th to 10th standard + Tamilnadu Board book

Geography XI and XII (4books)

(If you find your base weak then read all 6th to 10th NCERT’s too)

Economics XI and XIIth (Macroeconomics) focus on theory only no need to learn those complex formulas

Society XI and XII will suffice but reading all NCERTs of society will definitely broaden your base.

Fine Arts std XI NCERT

  • watch Mrunal sirs Economy Videos on youtube simply watch and try to understand

4. After reading these if you feel any interest to read these again and go into the depth go for standard books.

Like Laxmikanth for the polity

Spectrum for modern history

J.C.Leong for Physical Geography

And start reading Hindu or Indian Express Newspaper + Insights Daily current affairs + Vision Monthly CA

5. An optional subject plays an important role in this exam as it has 500 marks. The subject which interest you more should be given priority. I have also written an answer regarding this, check it out for more.

6. You must read ALL Books at least 3 times. If you prefer to make concise notes and reduce the content to such size that you can finish the whole of a subject within a few hours.

*Revision is the most important part in the preparation.

*Current affairs is the soul, Editorials, different govt websites will prepare you for Mains and interviews

*Test series will keep you up on the track!

*Start answer writing soon as you complete the static (Books) syllabus.

I wrote this just for basic info of yours, you must check some toppers talks. Their strategies and make one of your own which suits you the best!

Best luck Have faith in yourself!
