What Are The Different Types of Scholarships Available for NEET Students?

Almost 10 lakh students appear for NEET annually, and limited seat availability in government colleges demotivates their passion for studying medicine. Many students move to private colleges and bear the immense education cost. 

On average, 6.8 lakh per annum is private Medical college fees. There is a sheer difference in tuition fees between government and private colleges.

The NEET Scholarship supports students in meeting educational expenses, including tuition fees, living expenses, books, hostel, etc. Popular scholarships for NEET aspirants are state-level scholarships, merit-based scholarships, corporate scholarships, and non-profit organizations programs.

It’s an online exam and provides financial aid to meritorious students to pursue their medical or engineering degrees. There are many different scholarship exams, and every test is working for the same goal–to lessen the burden of education fees.

Scholarship for NEET Qualified Aspirants

The prime objective of scholarships for NEET exams is to provide medical education to financially incapable students so they can focus on their studies without worrying about the education fees. After securing the minimum cut-off marks in the NEET test, the students are eligible for different scholarship programs. However, the amount of benefit is variable depending on so many factors. 

AIPMST Scholarship

AIPMST is the most extensive scholarship exam covered under the NEET scholarship exam. The Central Sector Scheme launches it for top medical colleges and university students to give financial support to their medical education. All Medical College boards conduct it in unison to provide scholarships for undergraduate medical students for MBBS or BDS or BAMS, BHMS, or BUMS courses. 

AIPMST provides merit-based scholarships where a deserving student can reimburse  50% to 100% of tuition fees for four years in a UG course. No State of quotas or reservations is applicable that ensures reliable and fair examination for all aspirants. The AIPMST scholarship applies to both government and private colleges.

BSE – Bharathi Schema for Education

Bharati Scheme for Education (BSE) is offered by Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation (APBC) to Brahmin applicants native to Andra Pradesh. The selected candidates receive financial assistance of  Up to INR 20,000 to pursue their medical studies. The applicants must refrain from availing of any other scholarship from other government schemes. The selection is based on academic excellence but girl candidate, orphan, single mother, physically challenged candidates, and economically poor students are given priority.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CST)

The Human Resources Development Ministry’s Department of Higher Education offers this scholarship to top colleges and university students who need help to afford high education costs. Those who get above the 80th percentile in Higher Secondary / Class 12th Board Examination are eligible for this scholarship. The financial aspects of medical education might be demotivating for poor students, so it assists them in meeting some of their day-to-day expenses and associated costs.  

The scholarship amount is ₹12,000/-per annum at the Graduation level for the first three years of College and University courses and ₹ 20,000 per annum at the PostGraduation level. The applicants must not avail of any other scholarship from other government schemes. The family income of the applicant should not exceed ₹4,50,000 per annum.

Combined Counselling Board Scholarship

Combined Counselling Board offers CCB scholarships to award students who have scored  33 percent to 50 percent marks in the last examination. This scholarship is applicable from  Class 10 to Post graduation level. Applicants can apply online. 

Scholarship amounts can range up to INR 2 lakh. It’s financial assistance to students from all streams to pursue higher education in their choice of courses. The scholarship is awarded to economically weak students of all categories with a 20% reservation for SC, ST, and OBC. 

FAEA Scholarship

FAEA is known as Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access Scholarship. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited offers it to provide financial support to socially and economically backward students willing to undertake UG degrees in the Arts/Commerce/Science/Engineering and other technical and professional fields. It supports tuition fees, maintenance allowance, book allowance, hostel, mess, and miscellaneous allowance per norms. 

This scholarship is designed for SC, ST, and BPL. The scholarship is applicable in four states: Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. 

VAHANI Scholarship 

VAHANI Scholarship is offered by the Vahani Foundation, which is a non-profit Foundation. It provides complete financial aid and accommodation facilities to economically poor students below the poverty line. It’s a Fully funded scholarship for a UG degree in medical education. It supports the top 30 financially weak students in their education for pursuing medical degrees. 

Students must have secured 85 % in class 10th and 11th standard, and family income should be below two lakhs per annum. 

Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST)

NEST scholarship for MBBS students is conducted by the SEMCI and the Students’ Unity Foundation in 65 major cities across India. It applies to medical courses such as MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, and BDS.  They motivate students to pursue accurate knowledge in registered colleges/universities. 12 science students are mandatory to apply for this scholarship. 

There are two tests: NEST junior and NEST senior. Senior one is the 1st & 2nd year of a degree course, and Senior two is for the 3rd & 4th year of degree students. Ten or more scholarships of Rs. 40,000/- are awarded to each student, and the 1st rank holder gets Rs. 1,00,000 INR. 

JBNSTS Scholarship

Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) has launched JBNSTS Junior and JBNSTS Senior scholarships for class 10th, class 11th, and class 12th to provide financial support to the students of West Bengal. Students who have passed class 10 with an aggregate mark of 75% and enrolled for class 11 can apply for the JBSTS Junior Talent Search scholarship, and students who have passed 12 science and enrolled in science courses in UG can apply for the JBSTS Senior Talent Seach scholarship. 

JBSTS Junior students will get INR 1,250 per month for two years (Classes 11 and 12), and JBSTS Senior students will get Rs. 4,000 per month until the UG course is completed. JBSTS Bigyani Konna Medha Britti Scholarship is only for West Bengal native female candidates seeking a medical degree.

Dr. Abdul Kalam Scholarship

This scholarship for NEET aspirants offers financial aid to students who belong to economically weaker sections of society and appear for the national-level medical entrance exam. The applicants must have secured 50% marks in the class 12th exam and qualified NEET entrance exam. 

There are different types of Abdul Kalam scholarships for NEET aspirants, and students can apply for all of them. The student will get INR RS. 20,000 as educational assistance.  

Swami Vivekananda Merit Scholarship

This scholarship supports minority community applicants residing in West Bengal to obtain decent education and overcome financial restraints. The aim of SVMCM Scholarship 2023 is to assist meritorious students with scholarships at different levels of higher education. Students must be studying class 11  to PG level. They get financial aid of INR 12,000 to 60,000 annually.

The Government of India and the state governments run numerous scholarships for students to get admission to various government and private institutes pursuing their higher-level studies. 

Ministry of Human Resource Development, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Ministry of Minority Affairs, etc. are providing different scholarships for NEET aspirants to make education accessible to all, irrespective of candidate’s caste, creed, or class. Scholarships for MBBS students resolve their financial stress and encourage them to pursue their dream of studying medicine.
