Vidyasagar University was established by an Act of the West Bengal legislature which was notified in the Calcutta Gazette on 24 June 1981. It is an affiliating university in Paschim Medinipur district of southern West Bengal, India. It offers courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Vidyasagar University, named after one of the most illustrious sons of Bengal as well as one of the doyens of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, has grown out of a long cultural and educational movement in West Bengal in general and in the undivided district of Midnapore in particular. On campus, Vidyasagar university offers postgraduate degrees (M.Sc, M.A, M.Com, M.Phil) to the students and it also offers Ph.D degrees to the students of their own department as well as specialized institutions. Vidyasagar University – Course Details with Eligibility Criteria
B.ed: Students who have completed the 10+2+3 grade
Bped: Students who have completed the 10+2+3 grade
BA: Bachelor of Arts is an undergraduate course offered in many disciplines. Applicants must have completed their 12th board examinations in any stream with at least a 50% score in order to be considered for this program. Admission will be based solely on merit.
LLB: Students who have completed the 10+2 grade
BCA: Students who have completed the 10+2 grade
B.com: Students who have completed the 10+2 grade
BSC: This program is open to applicants who have completed their 10+2 education in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths/Biology as the main subjects. Bachelor of Science programs are available in many specializations.
BBA: Bachelor of Business Administration is a professional degree programme that takes three years to complete. Students who have completed the 10+2 grade with a minimum of 60% marks are eligible to apply
M.A: Bachelor’s in the relevant subject
M.Sc: B.Sc in relevant discipline
M.Com: Honors in Commerce/ Accountancy/ Marketing/ BCA

MPhil/Ph.D. admission
For research level courses, the candidates have to appear in the qualifying exam (RET) followed by an interview. Candidate needs to obtain a minimum of 55% marks in their post-graduate level examination. If the candidates pass the all India examination like GATE, NET, SET then their admission in Ph.D. is only based on the interview.
Vidyasagar University PG Selection Process
- For admission in MCA, the candidate has to qualify JECA entrance examination with the required valid scores.
- For admission in MBA, program the candidate needs to qualify CAT/MAT/ CET or VUMAT followed by group discussion and personal interview.
- For admission in other PG Courses such as M.Sc., MA, and M.Com, the candidate has to qualify for the entrance exam conducted by the University.
Vidyasagar University UG Selection Process
- The university provides admission to all the undergraduate courses on the basis of merit scores achieved by the students in the 10+2 class level board examination from a recognized board.
Vidyasagar University PhD Admission
Vidyasagar University PhD admission will start in August 2024. Applicants are invited for PhD admission for 2024-23 in Bengali, Commerce, Economics, Hindi, history, political science many other courses from various specializations. The candidates will have to fill out the application form through the university portal Vidyasagar.ac., effective from September 2022. Candidates have to INR 500 & GST for the application fee and payment made through online mode. Vidyasagar University Ph.D. admission 2024-24 last date is August 2024. Only fellowship holders can apply for doctoral-level courses at Vidyasagar University.
Admission Process
Candidates will be offered admission into the PG courses on the basis of merit list. In the table given below, candidates can find the details of the admission process and the merit list:
- Candidates of the general category are required to obtain minimum 45% marks for admission into the Arts stream.
- Candidates of the SC and ST category will be required to have 40% marks with 5% relaxation to be eligible to apply for admission.
- Those, who want to apply for admission to pursue the Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme, will be required to have 50% marks in the honors level science programme.
- Candidates of the reserved category will be given the relaxation of 5% marks.
