THE POSITION OF WOMEN IN SOCIETY HAS CHANGED MARKEDLY IN THE LAST TWENTY YEARS.

The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children. The status of Women in society has always been debatable. But with the passing years, more and more women are breaking the stereotype of confining themselves within the four walls of a home and stepping outside to pursue their careers which is a great step as it results in their overall growth as well as the nation’s. But at the same time juvenile delinquency has been on a rise due to the lack of parental attention at times, not only because of the working mother, but the family as a whole.

Independence and good moral values should always be instilled in Children, but even if the mothers are working the children should not go astray. It is not only the mother’s duty to teach good values to children, but also the father has a similar role to play. With the increasing number of young children indulging in drug abuse, alcohol consumption and other criminal activities, the parents should step in and guide their child towards the right path.

They should discuss with their child the consequences of undertaking such activities which will scare them. Young teenagers take the wrong path at times under the influence of peer pressure. They do not know how to combat this, as at this age there are certain hormonal changes due to which children might take the wrong path. This is where the parents should spend some quality time together with their child and guide them from the start.

To recapitulate, a working woman is not the one to be blamed for the increase in such socially unacceptable problems like juvenile delinquency, rather it should be the mutual responsibility and concern of the parents to cater to their children’s needs and provide appropriate upbringing and instil the right values in them.
