Study in France With 5 Years of Post-Study Work Visa

The Indian Students in France can now rejoice. On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to France, he declared that the post-study work visa for Indian students in France will be extended up to 5 years. While addressing the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris, Modi stated that the French government has decided to provide Indian students with a long-term work visa after the completion of their master’s degree. Earlier, the international students were allowed to stay up to two years after their course completion. The new update will allow the graduate students to stay for five years after completing their study programme and search for prospective job opportunities in the French labour market.

France has been the most preferred destination for education and employment among aspirants who wish to pursue their studies in Europe for many years. Holding a prominent position in the global educational scenario, France currently stands in the fourth position, right after the US, UK, and Australia, and is the most popular non-English-speaking country. The vibrant culture and deep-rooted heritage of the country, along with their unwavering enthusiasm to provide excellent education, continue to attract thousands of international students every term. The universities in France offer a wide range of higher education programmes on par with international standards for foreign students, irrespective of their French proficiency. In order to accommodate more international students, the universities have begun to offer programmes where English is the primary medium of instruction, fostering a multicultural learning environment.

Even though the studies are affordable compared to the major study destinations, the French government and universities provide several scholarships and fee waivers to international students to make the educational facilities more accessible to everyone. This initiative not only enhances the universities’ global reputation but also provides an opportunity for international students to pursue their academic goals in France without language or financial barriers.

The French government’s decision regarding the visa extension is expected to attract more Indian students to pursue higher education in France, as it not only offers quality education but also promising career opportunities. In the last three years, more than 6,000 Indian students have preferred to study in France. With the issuance of a five-year post-study work visa, Indian students can stay in France for a longer period, obtain exceptional work experience from the big giants in the French diaspora, and contribute greatly to the economies of both nations. Additionally, the availability of post-study work opportunities in France further incentivizes Indian students to choose France as their preferred study destination.

Indo-French collaboration goes back a long way, and several scholarships have been awarded to Indian students pursuing higher education in France as well as in India. The Charpak scholarship programme, a major French government scholarship for Indian students, funds Bachelor’s and master’s-level studies in various fields such as science, technology, the humanities, and the arts. It has been one of the driving factors for aspirants to move to France for higher education. Through the extension of post-study work visas for Indian students, both governments are aiming to strengthen the educational ties between India and France, fostering greater collaboration and the exchange of knowledge between the two nations.

PM Modi made another notable announcement during the annual day parade celebrations with French President Emmanual Macron regarding the acceptance of Indian UPI payments. He announced that Indians will be able to use UPI for paperless transactions during their stay in France, as the two governments signed a MOU on the same and it will be effective very soon. The acceptance of Indian UPI payments in France reflects the growing recognition of India’s digital payment system on a global scale as well as encouraging mobility between two countries in terms of tourism and educational prospects.
