The CBSE plans to end the 10+2 Education format Next Year and switch to the 5+3+3+4 System

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the largest educational board in the country, has made a major announcement that it would switch to a new educational model for the next academic year. This is in accordance with suggestions made by theNational Education Policy 2020, which will replace the 10+2 system and transition to a 5+3+3+4 pedagogical structure.

Nidhi Chhibber, the chairperson of the CBSE, has reportedly confirmed the termination of the conventional 10+2 educational model and stated that the board has decided to implement the change beginning with the following academic year. She continued by saying that the board will soon issue instructions for the start of the initiative and would establish a school register, a teacher register, and a registration to monitor the development of the 5+3+3+4 system at various stages of education. The Chairperson also emphasised on involvement of kids aged 3 to 6 in formal schooling as per the recommendations of NEP 2020.

The NEP 2020’s new pedagogical framework separates the educational process into four stages. First, there is the foundational stage, which lasts for five years. The following two phases, preparatory and middle, will each last three years. It will take four years to complete secondary school. The new sections are said to correspond to the phases of cognitive growth that children and teenagers experience.

While the board exams for grades 10 through 12 will still be administered, the NEP will restructure the examination method. All students will be permitted to take these exams twice throughout a school year, in order to eliminate the stress and fear that the board exams usually create. The student will also have the option of taking the improvement examination; nonetheless, the main exam will be mandatory.
