The New Proposed Scheme of ICAI, 2023

According to Icai New Scheme 2023, few changes have been made to all the three levels of CA Course. The revised scheme of education of ICAI new scheme also proposed changes in the practical training of three years. In this revised scheme, a few sections have been removed and few have been merged.

ICAI New Scheme 2023

In the CA new syllabus, the below mentioned changes have been made. Along with changes in the syllabus, various changes have been made to the eligibility criteria, registration validity, exam pattern, subjects, passing criteria, exemptions, training leaves and CA Final exemption rules.

CA Foundation New Course 

Have a look at the difference between the old CA Foundation course structure and the newly proposed scheme by ICAI. 

Changes according to the ICAI New Scheme 2023 Old CA Foundation Course Scheme
Students can register only after clearing the 10th board No exact number of attempts for the CA Foundation course.
CA Foundation validity – 4 years No exact limitation to the CA Foundation registration validity.
No cut-off dates for CA Foundation registration. ICAI can conduct three exams in a year There were cut off dates like January 1 or July 1 for CA Foundation exams

CA Foundation New Syllabus 2023 and Passing Criteria

The changes that have been proposed in the ICAI new scheme 2023 are as follows:

  • CA Foundation that used to have 6 subjects and 4 papers, now has 4 subjects and 4 papers.
  • ICAI has removed 2 subjects from the CA Foundation new syllabus. The two subjects are-
  1. Business Correspondence & Reporting
  2. Business & Commercial Knowledge
  •   It is mandatory for students to score 50% in order to pass the CA Foundation exam. 
  • ICAI has also proposed a negative marking of .25 for every wrong answer in the MCQ answer.
  • The old exam pattern had just subjective and objective type questions, without any negative marking.

CA Intermediate Course under ICAI New Scheme 2023

CA Intermediate New Syllabus 2023

Below mentioned are the highlights of the changes proposed by ICAI in the CA syllabus of Intermediate level:

  • ICAI has removed 2 subjects from the CA Intermediate syllabus. 
  • Previously there were 8 papers and now there will be 6 papers according to the ICAI New Scheme 2023.
  • Paper 1 and 5 are now merged into one paper, that is Advanced Accounting.
  • “Enterprise Information Systems” is removed from paper 7.
  • “Economics for Finance” is removed from paper 8.
  • Remaining part is included in paper 6 as “Financial Management and Strategic Management”.
  • Paper 2 of Corporate Laws will be only about the Companies Act.
  • Business Law will be covered at the CA Foundation level.
  • In the ICAI new scheme 2023, there will be 2 groups of three papers in the CA Intermediate Syllabus. 

CA Intermediate Exemption and Passing Criteria 

Changes that have been made to the passing criteria and exemption criteria of CA intermediate level exam as follows:

  • 30% MCQ questions for all 6 papers.
  • Negative marking of .25 for every wrong answer.
  • If a student scores 60% in one or more papers in a single attempt, exemption of papers for immediate three attempts is allowed.
  • ICAI is to treat the exempted papers of CA Intermediate as permanently passed, after the new scheme. But students have to clear the rest of the papers with 50% marks individually.
  • Students can opt to surrender the exempted papers after three attempts.

CA Articleship Training

Highlights of changes proposed by ICAI in CA Articleship Training are:

  • The CA Articleship duration has reduced to 2 years from 3 years.
  • Students willing to practice Chartered Accountancy,must have at least 1 year of experience in a  CA firm.
  • This condition does not apply to aspirants who wish to do a job. 
  • Students can also opt to go for Industrial training for 9 months to 1 year( during the last 1 year of Articleship).

CA Final Course changes under the New Scheme of ICAI

Eligibility for Exam 
  • Completed advanced ICITISS course 
  • Completed six months after the practical training
  • Qualified the four self paced online modules
Completed advanced ICITISS course and 2.5 years of practical training 

Students have to clear the four sets of self paced modules to become eligible for the CA Final exams. These sets include:

  1. Economic Laws(Compulsory)
  2. Strategic Cost Management and performance evaluation(Compulsory)
  3. Specialization Elective
  4. Incorporating multidisciplinary approach envisaged in NEP,2020

Students have to score more than 50% in each module. Both the compulsory papers have been deleted from CA Final old course. In the other two sets remaining, students can choose their topics and can study for them online during articleship training period. 

CA Final New Syllabus 2023

According to the ICAI New Scheme 2023, these are the major changes:

  • CA Final papers have been reduced from 8 to 6.
  • Paper 4 and 5 subjects will be removed and added in self paced modules as compulsory sets.
  • There are no more options in paper 6. 
  • Elective subjects like Risk Management and Financial services are now included in the Set C of self paced modules.

The CA Final papers will have 30% MCQ based questions.There will be negative marking on every wrong answer.The CA final exemption rules are as same as the CA Intermediate exemption rules. 

The ICAI new scheme 2023 shall prove to be more beneficial for the future aspirants as it will prepare them all for International markets.
