The annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia is expected to reach pre-pandemic levels this year after restrictions imposed due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic were eased.

In Islam, it is necessary for all able-bodied Muslims to perform Hajj once in their life. Millions of people from many countries around the world gather in Mecca, the holy city of Islam, on the occasion of the annual Hajj and it is considered one of the largest gatherings of people.

In the year 2019, before the coronavirus epidemic, 24 lakh people participated in the Haj pilgrimage, but due to the lockdown imposed due to the epidemic in 2020, Saudi Arabia limited the number of pilgrims to only 1000.

The move was unprecedented as it was not done even during the flu pandemic of 1918 when millions of people worldwide lost their lives to the disease. Although this year, after the removal of all the Covid, once again millions of people are expected to participate in Haj.
