The Orville Season 4 Gets Bleak Update From Hulu Exec

The Orville season 4 gets a bleak update from ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals president Craig Erwich.

Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich gave a bleak update for The Orville season 4. The popular Star Trek-inspired science-fiction comedy follows Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) as he leads the crew of USS Orville on adventures across the galaxy. Although season 1 faltered, garnering middling reviews from critics and audiences alike, The Orville rebounded with season 2 and 3, both scoring 100% Fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Erwich recently spoke to TVLine and gave a bleak update regarding The Orville season 4. The executive did not share any new details, avoiding any confirmation that The Orville will return. Instead, Erwich praised the work MacFarlane had done on the latest season. Read all of what Erwich said below:

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

We don’t have anything to share right now. It’s a great show and I know that the fans loved having it back in their lives. And Seth [MacFarlane] did a great job, uniquely as he can, in front of and behind the camera. But we don’t have anything to share right now.

Storylines The Orville Season 4 Could Explore

In August 2022, MacFarlane opened up about the future of The Orville. The writer-director could not confirm season 4 but stated that he believed the chances for another season are dependent upon the audience. However, MacFarlane admitted that he would love to continue working on the show. With The Orville‘s next chapter in limbo, though, MacFarlane has other projects on his plate, including a prequel series to his popular comedy film, Ted.

The conclusion of The Orville season 3 saw the Planetary Union in a tense political battle with the Moclans and Krill after they formed an alliance and decided to use a one-of-a-kind weapon to destroy the Kaylons. To preserve a tentative peace with the Kaylons while upholding the morals of the Union, Mercer led an attack against the Krill and Kaylon that resulted in Ensign Charly Burke (Anne Winters) sacrificing herself to save the Kaylon. Her actions ended up proving to the Kaylons that biological lifeforms may have value. With Kaylon allied with the Union, the Moclans and Krill remain as possible antagonists if The Orville is to continue.

With Krill Supreme Chancellor Teleya (Michaela McManus) on Earth and set to stand trial for war crimes, the Krill and Moclan alliance may use her as a focal point for their continued alliance. The two militaristic worlds may attack Union worlds and outposts, threatening the lives of civilians to assure Teleya’s release. However, Mercer and Teleya’s daughter, Anaya, remains a secret that, if unearthed, could tear through the heart of Krill society. Barring any future announcements from Hulu or MacFarlane, fans must be patient to see if The Orville season 4 will happen.
