Forget Red Hood – The Bat-Family’s Darkest Hero Is Savior

Sure, Red Hood has one of the darkest histories in the Bat-Family, but Savior, a Tim Drake variant, could have an even more brutal motivation.

While fans may think of the Red Hood as the most brutal and darkest member of the Bat-Family, the truth is far from it. One epic crossover reveals that Savior, a variant of Tim Drake, will go to some unfathomable depths to achieve his ultimate goals.

The Bat-Family is one of the largest endeavors to combat crime in the DC Universe, and as such, there are a number of heroes within the team that have a bit of edge to them. Batgirl Cassandra Cain was raised from birth to be the perfect assassin for Ra’s al Ghul while Bruce Wayne’s son Damian has repeatedly found himself the puppet of sinister forces. But Jason Todd, aka Red Hood, has arguably the darkest history of any Bat-Family member. After all, no one can forget about his murder by the Joker’s hand, or his stint as an extreme vigilante in opposition to Batman.

However, the usually happy-go-lucky Tim Drake has a potential variant from the future that may be even darker than the Red Hood. In the crossover arc “Super Sons of Tomorrow” told in Super Sons, Teen Titans and Superman, a time-displaced version of Tim Drake shows up to prevent a future caused by Superboy Jon Kent’s solar flare ability. He makes allies of the Teen Titans after telling them that Jon’s half-human heritage prevents him from being able to properly control the effects of the solar flare, accidentally killing millions in the future. Taking on the name ‘Savior’, Tim tries to convince the Titans that Superboy must die to protect the future. However, after he witnesses the present-day heroes attempts to help Jon survive a second solar flare, Savior absorbs the radiation, just as he is pulled back into Hypertime.

Tim Drake’s Savior Is Far Darker Than Red Hood

This version of Tim Drake had previously met his present-day equivalent after both were kidnapped by Mr. Oz, aka Jor-El, Superman’s father. The encounter eventually led to Savior attempting to kill Batwoman in order to stop another dark future from occurring. This version of Tim is extremely dedicated to changing the timeline for the better, even if he has to end lives to make it happen. The Red Hood has shown no qualms about killing, but not for the same reasons Savior does.

Since Jason came back from the dead, he gained a reputation as the most brutal member of the Bat-Family. While he’s pulled back on killing for the sake of his friends and allies, the Red Hood’s fighting is some of the most brutal in the team, injuring criminals more severely than anyone else. But while Jason’s methods come from a more personal place, Savior is fighting to protect the timeline from the worst potential fates. Whether it’s a disaster or a death of a loved one, this version of Tim won’t stop at any cost to improving the timeline, even if that means killing people to achieve it. Red Hood might be the Bat-Family’s darkest current member, but Savior is the most dangerous thing to come out of the team.
