Warning: SPOILERS for Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3Out of all the heroes in the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man has perhaps had the most troublesome love life, but his newest romantic interest might get him in the most trouble yet.
Spider-Man is a bit out of his element in the miniseries Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Peter has traveled to California to help a scientist named Crystal with her experiments. Unfortunately, the experiments opened up a portal that awoke the psychically spiritual X-Men villain Demon Bear. Because of this activity, Spider-Man has been having weird hallucinations and visions. He has even seen a spider-like totem etched onto his chest. Crystal has seen some of these visions too, and the two of them are quite perplexed as to how it ties into Native American mythology.
In Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3 by Taboo, B. Earl, and Juan Ferreyra, it appears as if Peter Parker’s relationship to Crystal is getting to be a little bit more than professional and moving into social and even romantic circles. After exiting the bathroom with what he believes to be the spider totem on his chest, Peter is invited by Crystal to do morning yoga together. Afterwards, Peter takes off his shirt and she compliments his physique. They then share an intimate moment, hugging with him shirtless before going on a trip to Joshua Tree.
Peter Parker Should Stay Away From Girls With Magic
Peter Parker is no stranger to love interests. He has even been known to date a femme fatale or two including the notoriously untrustworthy Black Cat. However, Crystal is another matter entirely. It hasn’t been revealed just how she connects to what is going on with Peter other than initiating the experiments, but it’s not a good sign that whatever she’s doing has awoken the Demon Bear and drawn Peter right into the center of it, especially since magic isn’t really his strong suit.
There’s a strong possibility that Crystal actually has some nefarious purpose in store for Peter. Even if she is completely innocent though, it’s not a good idea for Peter to get close to her given what has happened thus far. First off, he is based in New York while she is based in California. Their relationship just won’t work as seen when he tries to have a long-distance relationship with Mary Jane. But if Crystal’s haphazard experiments are the reason Peter is getting drawn into this terrifyingly real-life nightmare, then it’s best that Spider-Man break off this budding relationship before it has a chance to really sink its teeth into his skin.
