James Cameron Makes History as the First Director to Have 3 Films Exceed 1.5 billion dollars at the Box Office

Director James Cameron is making film history by having three films grossing over 1.5 billion dollars worldwide and counting.

Director James Cameron continues to beat his records and film records in general. With his recent hit film Avatar: The Way of Water pulling in over $1.52 billion worldwide in box office sales since its Dec. 16 release, he has two other films that have done just as well. The other two include Cameron’s groundbreaking film, Titanic, released in 1997, which has accumulated over 2.2 billion dollars worldwide. His other film is the original Avatar, released in 2009, which pulled in over 2.9 billion dollars worldwide. The first Avatar continues its reign as the highest-grossing film of all time, with Titanic coming in at number 3 according to IMDb’s box office mojo charts. Now, Cameron is making history again as the first director to have three movies exceeding 1.5 billion dollars at the box office worldwide.

For those unaware, in 1978, Cameron released his first movie, a science fiction film titled Xenogenesis. In the early 1980s, thanks partly to his pioneering movie, it opened a plethora of doors for Cameron, eventually providing him access to numerous production positions at New World Pictures. However, Cameron’s big break came in 1984 when he penned and directed the science fiction film The Terminator, which depicted a robot from the future.

Avatar: The Way of Water is making a splash in theaters worldwide. It’s also one of the most talked about films on social media. It’s hard to believe things could get any bigger for the film or its director James Cameron, who recently celebrated another week at the box office where Avatar: The Way of Water beat out the insanely popular robotic killer doll-based film M3GAN.

But in a recent interview reported by Forbes, Cameron confidently stated that with Avatar: The Way of Water succeeding with audiences, he is confident it will surpass the $2 billion mark worldwide in just a few days. This news comes on the heels of ATWOW accumulating over 1.52 billion dollars in worldwide sales, and Cameron’s statement that Avatar 3 is currently in production and Avatar 4 is on the horizon. Cameron has stated that Avatar 3 will likely hit theaters by December 20, 2024, so fans of the series will have to wait a while longer to see the next installment.
