Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers Forever #12Mephisto’s Council of Red teases what the MCU’s Secret Wars could be while facing a massive army of Captain Americas (and more). In the latest issue of Avengers Forever, multiple variants of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have assembled at the request of the mysterious Avenger Prime. Facing off against a legion of Mephistos from a score of different realities, the MCU’s multiversal climax should have a solid foundation beyond Marvel Comics’ past Secret Wars events.
In the new Avengers Forever #12 from Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Mark Farmer, and Frank Martin, Earth-616’s Mightiest Heroes are being kept busy protecting their ancient ancestors from the Multiversal Masters of Evil (a cabal of villains Mephisto helped unite). Meanwhile, the Council of Red has gone to war with Avenger Prime’s new army, and the ground forces are composed entirely of Captain America variants.
The MCU’s Secret Wars Could Have Armies of Variants
Supported by an air force of various Captain Marvels known as the Carol Corps, this massive battle in Avengers Forever shows the opportunity the MCU’s Secret Wars could take advantage of. Shows like Loki and films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have started to lay the groundwork. Each of them has shown different variants of the same hero meeting and working together for the greater good, but none on such a scale as Avengers Forever.
Something similar to a large army of Captain Americas could certainly be the culmination seen in Avengers: Secret Wars set to release in 2026. After all, it’s worth noting that 2015’s Secret Wars event in the comics did feature the Thor Corps, an entire army of Asgardian Gods of Thunder dedicated to keeping the peace. It’s certainly possible that the on-screen Secret Wars could feature a similarly large recruitment effort of variants.
Legions of the same heroes assembling to save the multiverse could stand a chance of topping Avengers: Endgame and the battle against Thanos the Mad Titan. Regardless, this current battle with Mephisto’s legion taking on a Captain America army is quite the endgame in the comics as well, the product of years of Jason Aaron writing Avengers. With Avengers Forever and Aaron’s primary Avengers series promising to forever change the status quo of the multiverse, there’s no telling what will happen next by this massive war’s end
