"Incredible Final over from Kartik Tyagi"

How, how, how? How do the Kings keep doing this again and again and again? They needed 10 off 15, 8 off 12 and finally, just 4 off the final over. And yet, they have ended up losing by a couple of runs. Lost for words here. But spare a thought for young Tyagi. With hardly anything to defend in the final over, he stuck to his guns and bowled brilliantly.

The Kings still should have gotten those four runs though. The chase was set up by the openers, KL and Mayank both taking turns at bossing the bowling, and it looked like one-way street even after they got out. Markram and Pooran seemed to have gotten the job done - well seemed to have is the right expression, because they didn't. A thrilling game of cricket and you'd think that it was much-needed for the IPL after the way the previous two games went.

It's not always that someone gets a Player of the Match for bowling one freakish over. But that's how significant that over was from Tyagi. This finish will be talked about a lot whenever we talk about some of IPL's craziest finishes.

The Royals have managed to start on the right note, albeit through a bumpy route. As for the Kings, it's really puzzling that a team with such talent regularly messes up such straightforward games. Rahul looked a crest-fallen man at the presentation and you can't fault him. It's only going to get tougher for them from hereon.

Final over Tragedy :

19.1 Kartik Tyagi to Markram, no run, dot to start!! Almost the yorker length, low full toss and Markram mistimes the drive towards extra cover

19.2 Kartik Tyagi to Markram, 1 run, another good ball, very full and Markram's heave goes off the inside half, down to fine leg. Just a single. Hmmmmm!! 3 needed off 4 now!

19.3 Kartik Tyagi to Pooran, out Caught by Samson!! Now then, now then! Kings, are you boys upto something naughty once again? Pooran falls with his side still a hit away and it's now run-a-ball. Tyagi continues to impress, nailing the near-yorker length and Pooran's attempted glide down to third man results in an edge that Samson gobbles up. It's still very easy as you can make out from the equation but mentioned earlier, the Kings certainly don't like boring games. Pooran c Samson b Kartik Tyagi 32(22) [4s-1 6s-2]

19.4 Kartik Tyagi to Hooda, no run, dot ball alert! Hooda isn't happy with the call, he did shuffle across early but Tyagi did get this beyond the tramline a bit too much I thought. Pressure, pressure!

19.5 Kartik Tyagi to Hooda, out Caught by Samson!! The heist is still on folks! Tyagi is bowling a final over for the ages. Must say that it's poor batting too in this over so far. This is very full and outside off, Hooda goes for a booming cover drive and gets a regulation edge that Samson snaps up behind the sticks. Hooda c Samson b Kartik Tyagi 0(2)

Three needed off the final ball. How has it come to this? Don't ask me. Ask the Kings.

19.6 Kartik Tyagi to Fabian Allen, no run, the Royals have produced the ultimate Houdini trick! What scenes out there! The inch-perfect yorker to seal things, nothing Allen can do with this. The line is too straight and he is beaten. A thrilling two-run win!

Kartik Tyagi | Player of the Match:

I was injured during the India leg of the IPL and by the time I got fit, the tournament was suspended. Felt sad. So this feels really good. I have been talking to people over the years and they keep telling me that things keep changing in this format, so I need to keep believing.

I've always heard from everyone and also watched games in this format where strange things have happened. Today, I was fortunate to play a big role in something special. I was bowling a bit too short earlier, later worked on it consciously after getting a lot of feedback.
