“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.”
—Epictetus

What is anxiety?

Your body's natural reaction to stress is anxiety, a sensation of dread or trepidation about the future. For instance, anxiety can make people fearful of a job interview or delivering a speech on his/her first appearance to a class. In case of severe symptoms, that last at least six months you may be suffering from an Anxiety Disorder. The most frequent mental health issues are anxiety disorders. They can be just as incapacitating despite being less obvious than schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar illness. Cognitive-behavioral therapies and psychopharmacological medications are both effective ways to treat anxiety problems.

There are several different disorders that exhibit anxiety.

  • In Panic disorders, you experience recurring panic attacks at unexpected times.
  •  Phobia is an excessive fear of a specific object, situation, or activity.
  • Social anxiety disorder is an extreme fear of being judged by others in social gatherings.
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder means you have recurring irrational thoughts that lead you to perform specific, repeated behaviors.
  • Separation anxiety disorder means having a fear of being away from home or your loved ones.
  • Illness anxiety disorder is anxiety about being concerned for your health.

What is the treatment for anxiety?

Selective Serotonin Reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

These are the first line of therapy for anxiety disorders usually indicated in depression, namely fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram, fluvoxamine, paroxetine.

Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs)

These drugs inhibit serotonin and norepinephrine transporters including venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, and duloxetine

Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines were once often used to treat anxiety disorders, but due to the hazards involved with long-term usage, they are no longer regarded as first-line treatments. 75 When used for a long period and in large doses, they are quite efficient at reducing acute anxiety but are linked to significant side effects.

What is the management of anxiety?

Changes in your way of life can help you manage some of the stress and worry you may experience daily. The majority of natural "remedies" involve taking care of your body, engaging in healthy activities, and avoiding unhealthy ones.

These include:

  • Sound Sleep
  • Meditation/Yoga
  • Exercise/Gym
  • Healthy die
  • Reducing alcohol/caffeine intake
  • No Smoking
