The Stearic acid, also known as octadecanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid with the molecular formula C18H36O2. Stearic acid can also be found in smaller quantities in other plant-based sources such as nuts like almonds and peanuts, as well as seeds like sunflower seeds.

3. Chemical Structure: Stearic acid is a long-chain saturated fatty acid. It consists of a hydrocarbon chain with 18 carbon atoms bonded to a carboxylic acid (-COOH) functional group at one end.

4. Saturated Fatty Acid: Stearic acid is classified as a saturated fatty acid because it contains only single bonds between carbon atoms. There are no double bonds in its hydrocarbon chain.

5. Melting Point: 69-72 ° C(156-162 °F). And it solid at room temperature.

6. Solubility: Stearic acid is practically insoluble in water due to its nonpolar nature. And it is soluble in organic solvents like ethanol, acetone, and ether.

7. Purity: Commercially available stearic acid is typically offered in various grades of purity, with higher purity grades being used in pharmaceutical and food applications.
