The General Studies (GS) paper is a crucial component of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).   4. Geography of India and the World:
    • Physical geography: Climate, rivers, mountains, and natural resources
    • Human geography: Population, settlements, agriculture, and industries
    • World geography: Continents, countries, major features, and international organizations
  5. Economic and Social Development:
    • Indian economy: Planning, sectors of the economy, agriculture, industry, and services
    • Social issues: Poverty, inequality, education, health, gender, and social empowerment
    • Sustainable development: Environmental conservation, climate change, and sustainable development goals
  6. Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change:
    • Ecology: Ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental degradation
    • Environmental conservation: Conservation measures, laws, and international agreements
    • Climate change: Causes, impacts, mitigation, and adaptation strategies
  7. General Science:
    • Physics: Laws of motion, energy, and matter
    • Chemistry: Elements, compounds, acids, bases, and chemical reactions
    • Biology: Cell structure, genetics, human physiology, and diseases

The General Studies paper aims to test the candidate’s understanding of various aspects of Indian society, polity, economy, culture, and the world at large. Candidates are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the topics mentioned above and their interrelations. Additionally, current affairs and contemporary developments relevant to these topics are also an integral part of the GS syllabus.
