IAS Rank Wise Post and Salary

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is one of the most prestigious and sought-after civil services in India. The ranking in the IAS is based on the cadre the officer is assigned to, which determines the level of responsibilities and salary. 1. Junior Scale (Entry Level)

  6. Above Super Time Scale
    • Salary: ₹2,18,200 – ₹2,25,000 per month (Basic Pay)
  7. Apex Scale
    • Salary: Fixed at ₹2,50,000 per month (Basic Pay)

Note: In addition to the Basic Pay, IAS officers receive various allowances, benefits, and perks based on their position, location of posting, and government policies.

It’s important to keep in mind that the salary structure and allowances may have been updated since my last knowledge update in September 2021. For the most current and accurate information regarding IAS salaries and allowances, I recommend referring to the official government sources or recent notifications from the concerned authorities.

Here is a general overview of the posts and salaries for IAS officers based on their rank:

  1. Junior Scale:
    • Pay Scale: Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500
    • Designation: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Assistant Collector, or Assistant Commissioner.
  2. Senior Time Scale:
    • Pay Scale: Rs. 67,700 – Rs. 2,08,700
    • Designation: District Magistrate (DM), Collector, or Joint Secretary of a government department.
  3. Junior Administrative Grade:

  6. Above Super Time Scale:

    • Designation: Chief Secretary of a state, or Secretary of a ministry.
  7. Apex Scale:
    • Pay Scale: Rs. 2,25,000 (Fixed)
    • Designation: Cabinet Secretary of India (highest ranking civil servant in the country).

Please note that the above salary figures are approximate and may change based on government policies and revisions. In addition to the basic pay, IAS officers are entitled to various allowances and benefits, including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other perks.

It’s important to keep in mind that the IAS is a highly competitive service, and candidates are selected based on their performance in the UPSC CSE. The rank achieved in the CSE determines the cadre and posting location of the IAS officer. The higher the rank, the better the posting an officer can expect. However, the highest-ranking officers, such as Cabinet Secretaries, are appointed by the central government and are not determined solely by the CSE rank.
