He finished his education at Hyderabad Public School in Hyderabad. He then moved on to complete his B.Com at Pragathi Mahavidyalaya Degree and PG college in Ram Koti, Hyderabad. Former Andhra Pradesh State Minister P Shankar Rao lodged a petition against Jagan in 2011. He accused Jagan of illegally obtaining money by exploiting his father’s status as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister. According to the petition, Jagan Mohan Reddy made Rs. 43,000 crores during his father’s tenure as Chief Minister. The CBI opened an investigation and issued more than 11 chargesheets against him. On May 27, 2012, Reddy was imprisoned and ousted as Leader of the Opposition. In September 2013, he was granted parole.

On 5 August 2017, while speaking at a rally, Jagan that even if N. Chandrababu Naidu was shot in the middle of the road, nothing would be wrong with it. He was chastised for making this remark. TDP leader Mallela Rajshekhar lodged an FIR against him, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about the CM and inciting violence in a riot-prone region.

Again, on October 25, 2017, Jagan was waiting for his departure at the Vishakhapatnam airport. An airport staffer approached him and requested a selfie. While taking the picture, the employee slashed Jagan’s left hand with a knife. The employee was arrested and brought into custody to be questioned. Jagan was injured and had to be operated on because the incision was quite deep. J Srinivas Rao, the employee, was subsequently identified. He had no party affiliations, so his motivation for attacking Reddy was unclear.

Jagan got was in 2020 on suspicion of illegal assets, was granted bail by a Central Bureau of Investigation judge on December 6, 2021, nearly 16 months after his arrest.
