One of the best actresses of her time, Savitri Kommareddy began her career as a direct character with the Telugu movie Pelli Chesi Choodu in 1952. She had been an actress with magnetic air who bagged many awards such as The Rashtrapati Award for the Telugu movie Chivaraku Migiledi in 1960 and the State Nandi Award for Best Feature Film Chinnari Papalu in 1968 that was under her creation and leadership.
Savitri worked in various languages in the Indian Film Industry such as Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. Savitri Kommareddy expired on 26-12-1981 in Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. She had been suffering from Cancer and died in 45.
She had been born to Nissankara Rao Guruviah and Subhadramma Guruviah. She was married to actor Gemini Ganesan from 1955 to 1981 (until her death). They had a daughter called Vijaya Chamundeswari (film actress) and a boy called Sathish Kumaar Ganesan. Famous Bollywood movie actress Rekha is her stepdaughter.
