This year, a Durga Puja committee in North Kolkata is preparing to welcome dogs as an uncommon group of guests to its pandal. The Bidhan Sarani Atlas Club has organized a special “Durga Puja Bhog” for its canine visitors this year after the popularity of its pet-friendly Durga Puja pandal last year.

“Why should they be left alone when we all enjoy the festival’s delicious food?” Therefore, this time, our pandal is not only pet-friendly, but every dog will also be provided nice dog chow, according to the club’s general secretary, Biswajit Ghosh.

The pet-friendly puja pandal hosted by the Bidhan Sarani Atlas Club last year was a smashing success and generated excitement on social media. This year’s pandal is based on the well-known Durga Madhab Yatra in Puri. “Dogs can now see the Jagannath Mandir this year. As part of our special plans, they will be given dog food as “special bhog,” Ghosh continued. Dog lovers and devotees of puja have already begun to arrive at this puja pandal from various locations.

Jagannath Daitapati I, the head Daitapati servant of Puri’s Jagannath Temple, opened the Puja pandal at the Bidhan Sarani Atlas Club. Also inside the temple, close to the Durga goddess, is a model of the building.

The pandal theme, according to the organizers, seeks to express the idea that “Shakti” (power) is the endless incarnation of “Prakriti” (nature) and assumes several personas, including that of a mother, sister, wife, and daughter. “She is power unified and exists in all beings,” Ghosh remarked.

In the meantime, dogs and birds in the northern portion of Kolkata inaugurated another Durga Puja pandal. The opening of this Puja pandal in Belgharia also included dwarfs who perform in circuses and movies.

“This year marks our 75th Puja. ‘Ring Master’ is the name of our theme. We are attempting to recapture childhood experiences associated with a circus through our theme, according to Soumitra De Chowdhury, secretary of the Aryanagar Kishore Sangha. The Puja organizers claimed that because the circus industry had declined during the previous ten years, it had become more challenging for those with dwarfism to find employment and a stable income. The Puja committee invited them as chief guests as a mark of respect, according to the organizers.
