By year’s end, Air India will introduce a new uniform for its personnel; the saree dress is set to be phased out

According to reports, national airline Air India is thinking about giving its female cabin crew more modern dress. While flight attendants have traditionally worn sarees for the past 60 years, that is likely to change shortly as the airline prepares to roll out new uniforms in November, according to a Hindustan Times report.

The redesign of the team is being overseen, per the report, by designer Manish Malhotra. The designer declined to comment, citing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), but authorities with knowledge of the situation informed HT that other conventional solutions, such churidars, are being considered.

One of the officials did, however, indicate that sarees might not be completely abandoned and that the uniform might still contain ready-to-wear sarees. According to the official, ready-to-wear sarees were one of the several options that were presented. The management hasn’t yet finalized them, though.

After being acquired by the Tata Group, the airline rebranded and debuted a new logo last month. The new logo, which features a more stylized design and a new color scheme of red, white, and purple, is a contemporary interpretation of the airline’s well-known Maharaja mascot.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated the new logo “signifies limitless possibilities” when unveiling it. The airline’s previous logo, which depicted a red swan embellished with the recognizable orange Konark Chakra, has been replaced.

According to a press statement from the airline, “The Vista,” the new brand emblem for Air India, is “inspired by the peak of the gold window frame, signifying limitless possibilities, progressiveness, and the airline’s bold, confident outlook for the future.”

In January 2022, Tata Sons bought Air India through Talace Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary. Later, it was revealed that Air India and Vistara, a different Tata Sons division, will be combined to form a more cohesive organization. By March 2024, this merger is expected to be finished.
