A brief about Larsen & Toubro struggles to find the 30000 trained people it requires
He stated that “Indian laborers lack skill sets, so there is a need to upskill them” in an interview with CNBC-TV18. He continued by saying that L&T’s use of automation and modularity to upskill employees makes the hiring process more difficult.
Subrahmanyan claims that a labor shortage has caused a backlog of nearly $50 billion on the company’s balance sheet. Due to the backlog in the EPC sector, he continued, the company needs people for heavy earthwork, masonry, and carpentry.
Increased emphasis on up- and re-skilling across industries has led to this trend. According to a LinkedIn poll, 82% of Indian professionals think that the move towards skills-based recruiting has made companies more likely to accept individuals who lack the essential job experience but possess the necessary capabilities.
In light of Larsen & Toubro being awarded the contract for Perdaman’s urea production in Australia, Subrahmanyan voiced his remarks. The supply and construction of modules for L&T Energy Hydrocarbon and Heavy Equipment for L&T Heavy Engineering have been awarded to SCJV.
