All Indian films are banned in Kathmandu due to the Adipurush discussion dispute

Despite its record-breaking profits, Adipurush is receiving a lot of negative press in India, and now Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, has banned the release of Indian Films. In response to concerns voiced by the mayor of the nation’s capital over how Sita is portrayed in the movie Adipurush, Kathmandu outright banned all Indian films.

According to reports, Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah declared a ban on the screening of any Indian films in theatres throughout the Kathmandu Metropolitan region. He is also said to have dispatched police to enforce the ban.

Balen Shah has already questioned how Sita is portrayed in the Adipurush. Balen Shah took issue with Sita being called the “daughter of India” when she was actually the “daughter of Nepal.” Adipurush’s creators allegedly made adjustments to the movie to address the complaints of Nepali lawmakers.

It is not permitted to perform any Indian films in Kathmandu metropolitan from tomorrow until objectionable portions are removed from the film, according to Balen Shah, who stated this in a Facebook post. “If the movie is allowed to be telecast in other areas and abroad by prohibiting the performance of anti-national films within the Kathmandu Metropolitan area.”

Prior to the T-series’ removal of the contentious Sita conversation, the Nepali censor board approved Adipurush, but the movie’s distribution there was delayed.

Adipurush has other issues as well. Indian viewers have criticised the movie for having subpar VFX, offensive speech, and unimpressive acting from the cast. The controversy is also gathering political traction as Congress and other opposition parties criticise the BJP and other right-wing organisations for remaining silent on the movie.

The movie is now doing really well and is projected to make more than 100 crore in India during the first weekend alone. The movie has made more than 200 crore rupees worldwide. However, commentators have noted that because of the film’s massive pre-bookings and certain schools screening it to kids, the collections can be described as “barely organic.”
