To go to the 2023 IPL final, Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champion Gujarat Titans

To advance to the 2023 Indian Premier League final, Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday at the Chepauk. When GT plays the winner of Friday’s Eliminator between Lucknow SuperGiants and Mumbai Indians, they will have another opportunity to compete for the championship.

A brief about to go to the 2023 IPL final, Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champion Gujarat Titans

Chennai Super Kings have now advanced to an IPL final ten times. The four-time winners placed ninth in the points standings last summer, but they have responded spectacularly this season. Thanks to some heroics from their openers, middle-order batters, rookie bowlers, and superb captaincy from MS Dhoni, CSK finished second in the points table with 17 points from 14 games.

Tuesday saw Ruturaj Gaikwad lead the way with a magnificent 60, Ravindra Jadeja shine with the bat and the ball (22 and 2 for 18), and Deepak Chahar pick up the key wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, helping the Super Kings to a historic triumph in front of their home crowd.

Gujarat Titans were defeated for the first time against Chennai Super Kings. GT had triumphed against the Super Kings in each of their previous three meetings before this game.

Deepak’s dismissal of Chahar Wriddhiman Saha in the third over of the innings dealt the Gujarat Titans a blow early in their pursuit. In a tight game, Hardik Pandya entered at No. 3, but Maheesh Theekshana quickly replaced him as GT struggled in the Powerplay. Shubman Gill, who had scored two consecutive hundreds prior to the first qualifier, was now under pressure.

Shubman Gill’s innings did not get off to a strong start, in contrast to the previous two innings, on a pitch that MS Dhoni predicted would start to slow down later in the match. After Virat Kohli, Gill was the only other Indian to surpass 700 runs in an IPL season when he turned 20. Gill has been in superb form during the 2023 IPL, and the Titans were going to depend on his runs.

Dasun Shanaka demonstrated strong intent against his Sri Lankan teammate, hitting him for a four and a six in the tenth over. However, Shanaka tried one shot too many as the required rate increased past ten, and a failed reverse sweep against Ravindra Jadeja ended up in Theekshana’s hands at short third-man.

When David Miller was caught by Ravindra Jadeja in his penultimate over, Gujarat Titans found themselves in even more danger. The Titans’ situation became clear when Deepak Chahar dismissed Shubman Gill for 42 while Rahul Tewatia joined Vijay Shankar at the crease. Over the past two seasons, Tewatia has completed several chases for the Titans, but tonight, Theekshana picked another wicket to hurt the defending champions.

With the help of Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan, the Titans were able to regain control of the game. After Matheesha Pathirana’s 9-minute break, the umpires prevented her from bowling, and MS Dhoni got into a fight with them. The CSK captain’s conversation with the match authorities garnered criticism from the commentators, including Simon Doull, who said Dhoni could regret delaying the contest.

Ruturaj Gaikwad sensationally caught Vijay Shankar in the deep, but Matheesha Pathirana struck to eliminate him. When Darshan Nalkande was run out after the very next delivery in the 18th over, GT lost another wicket.

Now, just Rashid Khan stood in the way of CSK reaching yet another IPL championship. With Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana scheduled to bowl one over each, GT needed 35 off the final two overs. When Deshpande dismissed Rashid and GT was 9 down for 142, the outcome was inevitable.

After Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway were not at the top of their game, but they still managed to reach 49 for no loss at the end of the Powerplay. After hitting the ball directly to Shubman Gill within the circle, Darshan Nalkande delivered a no-ball, giving Gaikwad an early opportunity to bat. Conway struggled to get going as Gaikwad hit the free-hit for a six and then fell into a comfortable groove.

Against the Delhi Capitals, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway were outstanding. In the first Qualifier on Tuesday, Conway lagged behind the explosive Gaikwad, who made his second consecutive half-century this season and fourth in four meetings against the Titans. They had combined 141 for the first wicket on a fantastic batting field, but Conway was slow off the blocks and could never catch up with him.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was bowled by Mohit Sharma for a 44-ball 60 to give GT its maiden victory. Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu’s cameos, in which they both scored 17 each, gave the Super Kings a lift. Shivam Dube, though, was unable to recreate his six-hitting form from some of the earlier games this summer. Although Devon Conway has been in excellent form this season, his performance in his first-ever IPL playoff fell short, as he only got 40 from 34 balls before being bowled out by Mohammed Shami.

A loud cheer greeted MS Dhoni as he took the pitch to bat, but he only managed one run off two before Mohit Sharma sent him back to the pavilion. Ravindra Jadeja was left in to make some crucial runs down the order with 22 off 16 balls. He made it possible for CSK to go to 172 for 7, which is on the surface a par score.

The Gujarat Titans’ top two bowlers were Mohammed Shami (2 for 28) and Mohit Sharma (2 for 31), while Noor Ahmad bowled well to finish with 1 for 29 off 4 overs. The last ball of Rashid Khan’s stint resulted in a wicket, while Darshan Nalkande was the most expensive bowler for GT, giving up 44 runs in 4 overs.
