Details about 5000 Go First employees are in a state of uncertainty as the company files for bankruptcy

Following the airline’s bankruptcy filing on Tuesday, Go First’s staff members are unsure of their futures. Additionally, the airline has halted all flights until May 5.

Under the condition of anonymity, a business development manager for an airline spoke to Business Today. He emphasised that because the airline had previously repeatedly delayed pay checks and reimbursements, employees were aware of the company’s financial difficulties.

We had a vague idea that it wasn’t in the best of financial shape because our paychecks were frequently late. But we were unaware that the situation was so serious. At the very least, neither were I nor my immediate coworkers, he claimed.

Under the condition of anonymity, a Cabin Crew member added that the staff is unaware of the company’s plan of action following May 5.

“We have no idea what will occur beyond Friday. Everyone is worried about the passengers and their flights after Friday, but the employees are also in a state of limbo. Nothing is being explained to us clearly, she complained.

She added that Go First wasn’t regarded as the finest employer in India’s aviation industry.

“Go First was never regarded as the finest employer in the sector; they paid less than other airlines, offered fewer perks than other businesses, and were infamous for paying employees late, among other things. Any of the Gulf airlines would make the best employment. They offer the highest salary. Major Indian airlines such as Vistara, IndiGo, possibly Air India, and then SpiceJet come next, she said. 

The member of the cabin crew also stated that she thought the Indian aviation industry was one of the most precarious career possibilities because to the ongoing airline ramp downs.

Go First has been contacted by Business Today for comment on the matter.

Go First Airlines filed for bankruptcy at the National Company Law Tribunal on Tuesday night due to rising losses. The airline claims that Pratt and Whitney’s refusal to immediately deliver 10 leased engines by April 27, 2023, followed by a further 10 engines by December 2023, as required by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), is what led to the current problem. The airline stressed that they might have started full operations by August or September 2023 if the engines had been supplied.
