During a trip from Iceland to England, passengers discovered to their delight that the captain was determined to see the Northern Lights. To allow the passengers to see the breathtaking vista, the easyJet flight’s captain made a 360-degree rotation midflight.

Adam Groves, a traveller on the flight, posted the following on Twitter, “Big thanks to the @easyJet pilot of EZY1806 from Reykjavik to Manchester who did a 360 fly by mid flight to make sure all passengers could see the incredible Northern Lights,” as he offered visual documentation of the surreal scene they witnessed. Groves added that the short detour was the ideal way to “cap off” his unique journey.

The deviation caused a divergence that lasted less than ten minutes and headed west of the Faroe Islands. Sometime Monday night after 8:30, there was a diversion.

Groves revealed in a chat with the BBC that “As soon as we took off, the pilot dimmed all of the lights so that we could see out the left window. But after a few minutes the pilot switched back and performed a 360-degree loop for everyone to watch while we were seated on the right side.”

In a statement, EasyJet airline praised the pilot’s manoeuvring skills, saying, “We are pleased that the captain on our flight from Reykjavik to Manchester yesterday evening was able to perform a controlled [manoeuvre] to allow passengers to witness an amazing display of one of nature’s greatest sights, the Aurora Borealis, from the air.”

“Our crew will always go above and beyond for our customers, and we’re thrilled to have been able to share this rare glimpse of the northern lights with them,” the airline continued.

The passengers were more than happy despite the fact that the jet did arrive beyond its scheduled landing time. The 360-degree spin was recorded by various internet aircraft trackers.

Flighttrader24.com published a video to show how the pilot made a brief detour to provide the fortunate passengers a clear view of the northern lights.

The northern lights, sometimes referred to as auroras, are a magnificent display of lights that can be viewed in high-latitude areas and appear as curtains or spirals.
