India will construct the world’s longest skywalk with a glass top

Chikhaldara, a hill station near Amravati in Maharashtra, is poised to have a 407-meter-long skywalk, which is expected to become the world’s longest. According to sources, the skywalk, which will feature a 100-meter glass platform in the center, is set to open in July 2023.

A brief about India will construct the world’s longest skywalk with a glass top

The Chikhaldara skywalk, which will be the world’s first single-cable rope suspension bridge among other firsts, would cost a hefty Rs 35 crore.

According to the Times of India, the glasswalk (skywalk), which will be India’s second after Sikkim, will be longer than the skywalks in Switzerland (397 meters) and China (360 meters).

According to Devendra Jamnikar, CIDCO’s executive engineer, who was mentioned earlier this year in the Times of India, the project’s pillars have already been built in Chikhaldara valley at hurricane point and Goreghat point. The project is 70% complete, and CIDCO has sublet the construction contract to one Apicon construction, according to reports.

The Chikhaldara skywalk project was approved by the state forest department in January 2022. However, approval from the environment ministry is still pending.

The Chikhaldara skywalk project will purportedly traverse over the buffer zone of Melghat Tiger Reserve, providing a stunning view of the tiger reserve as well as the area’s rich flora and fauna.

The Chikhaldara skywalk project will provide a bird’s eye view of the Melghat Tiger Reserve, which is home to approximately 900 plant species, 35 mammal species, and 295 bird species.

Chikhaldara is the lone hill station in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha area, and it is conveniently located near the Mumbai-Nagpur motorway.
