SpiceJet increases the monthly salary of captains to Rs. 7 lakh

From November forward, Spicejet will be paying its captains more money. The updated wage will be Rs 7 lakh per month for 80 hours of flying, which is more than the pre-COVID salary. The pay increase will take effect on November 1st.

The airline said that it has been increasing pilot pay on a monthly basis and that the October raise for captains and first officers was 22%. Trainers’ salaries increased by up to 10% in September compared to August, while captains’ and first officers’ salaries rose by 8%.

Details about SpiceJet increases the monthly salary of captains to Rs. 7 lakh:

It claimed that senior first officers’ wages and trainers’ compensation had both climbed proportionately.

The low-cost airline raised the pay for all of its pilots starting in October after increasing line captains’ pay by 6% the month before. The company’s employees were advised via internal email that they would receive tax deducted at source payments as well as a sizable chunk of their provident fund contributions within the next two to three weeks. The carrier put numerous pilots on unpaid leave for three months as a cost-saving move the day before the increase was announced.

Additionally, the airline has been approved for a loan under the ECLGS program of the federal government.

Separately, SpiceJet recently made news for being under investigation after smoke entered the cabin during takeoff on a flight from Goa to Hyderabad. There were no more injuries or hospitalizations, however, one passenger was taken urgently to the hospital. The DGCA mandated an investigation into the event and required the airline to take a number of precautions before taking off. The regulator added that it will keep a tight eye on things to guard against any undesirable events.

However, SpiceJet has placed 80 of its pilots on a three-month, unpaid leave of absence. In a previous statement, the airline firm explained that “the action was done as a temporary measure to harmonize costs and is in keeping with the airline’s philosophy of not terminating any employee. Even during the COVID outbreak.”
