ServiceNow, a popular IT service management (ITSM) platform, can be integrated with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management service. This integration facilitates user provisioning, de-provisioning, and also enables single sign-on (SSO), enhancing security and user experience.

Here are the steps to integrate ServiceNow with Azure AD:

  1. Set up ServiceNow as an application in Azure AD:

    • Log in to your Azure portal.
    • Once selected, provide a suitable name for the application and click “Add”.
  2. Configure ServiceNow for single sign-on:

    • After setting up the application, configure SSO by selecting “Single sign-on” from the app’s left-hand navigation pane.
    • Choose SAML as the single sign-on method.
    • On the “Basic SAML Configuration” section, input the required details like “Identifier (Entity ID)”, “Reply URL (Assertion Consumer Service URL)”, etc. The values can be obtained from the ServiceNow instance.
    • After entering all necessary values, save the configurations.
  3. Configure user attributes & claims:

    • On the same SSO configuration page, you can also configure user attributes and claims that ServiceNow requires.
  4. Configure the SSO settings in ServiceNow:

    • Log in to your ServiceNow instance with admin credentials.
    • Navigate to “System Security > Single Sign-On (SSO)” and configure the settings to match those defined in Azure AD.
  5. Set up User Provisioning:

    • From the Azure portal, within the ServiceNow app settings, select “Provisioning”.
    • Set the “Provisioning Mode” to “Automatic”.
    • Fill out the “Admin Credentials” for ServiceNow.
    • Define the user attributes and mappings.
    • Enable the provisioning status.
  6. Assign Users and Groups:

    • From the left-hand navigation pane, select “Users and groups” and assign the users and groups you want to enable for single sign-on.
  7. Test the configuration:

    • You can now test the single sign-on and user provisioning to make sure everything works correctly. Users assigned to ServiceNow in Azure AD should be able to use Azure AD credentials to log in to ServiceNow.

Remember, some fields may vary slightly depending on your version of Azure AD and ServiceNow. Always refer to the most recent documentation from Microsoft and ServiceNow when configuring the integration.

Also, for more complex use cases (such as integrating multiple directories or handling advanced user attribute mappings), you may want to engage with a professional familiar with both Azure AD and ServiceNow to ensure your needs are fully addressed.
