The University of Manitoba Admission Requirements

The University of Manitoba’s admission criteria may differ depending on the program you are applying to and your educational background.

High School Diploma: You must have a high school diploma or an equivalent credential, such as the General Educational Development (GED).

Course Requirements: Course requirements vary per degree, but you should have completed the required subjects in high school. English, mathematics, science, and social sciences are all common prerequisites. Additional qualifications may apply to some programs.

Supplemental Application Documents: Certain University of Manitoba programs may require additional application materials such as a personal statement, letters of recommendation, or a portfolio of work.

Minimum GPA required

All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B) or its equivalent in the last 60 credit hours of their academic pursuits in order to be considered for admission. Please keep in mind that only credits obtained inside the Canadian and American educational systems will be used to calculate GPA. GPA from other educational systems will be considered based on the most recent two years of full-time study for applicants from other educational systems.

Application Process

  • Review your program details to find your application deadline, find your department’s application requirements and ensure you meet the minimum faculty requirements

Application deadlines

Unless otherwise specified, applications are accepted up to 18 months before the start date. That is to say:

  • Fall applications are accepted beginning April 1 of the year preceding the start of the term.
  • Winter applications are accepted beginning July 1 of the year preceding the commencement of the semester.
  • Summer applications are accepted beginning February 1 of the year previous to the commencement of the term.

For example, applications for the Fall term 2024 will be accepted beginning April 1, 2023.
