Most modern offices have high floors, with power and network cables running beneath them. While I consider this the best solution, it is also the most expensive, and we would not consider it for our home/small office environment.

Here in Croatia, according to the standards, every new building must have power outlets on three walls with optional RJ45 and coaxial outlets in every room. Based on this fact, I have network cables running through the walls of my house and every room has at least two RJ45 outlets.
Here you have the option of running cables inside walls (like me) or over walls. If you are building a new office or home and prefer in-wall cabling, you will need to arrange this with your architect. Some ISPs will provide you with a very powerful router that you can use as the central hub for your network. And that’s just under the assumption that not all configuration options are unlocked on that router, and they usually aren’t.

Once your home/small office network is up and running, there may be a number of devices you want to connect to.
