Silver solved other incidents like a tweet by the General Manager of Houston Rockets, Darl Morey, who favored the Hong Kong protests. The tweet caused an issue between the NBA and China, and China decided to cut ties with NBA. Silver ruled in support of Morey, saying he had freedom of speech and the right to express himself.

Silver has been recognized gravely and won many awards in the sports industry. In 2015, Sports Business Journal named him Executive of the year, one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, and one of Fortune’s 50 Greatest Leaders that year.

In 2016, Sports Business Journal ranked him no.1 on their list of 50 most influential people in sports.

In 2015, Silver got married to his wife, Maggie. They gave birth to two daughters. He is on the Board of Trustees for Duke University and won the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Chicago Law School. He is also on the board of the Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
