Sparsh Social Foundation: Strengthening vulnerable communities by leveraging livelihood opportunities

Sparsh Social FoundationEmpowering women through livelihood generation improves not only their financial independence but also their overall self-esteem, decision-making power, and influence in their households and communities. When women are economically empowered, they are better able to invest in their families’ education and health, which has a positive impact on society.

Sparsh Social Foundation, a section 8 non-profit organization, is working to make a positive social impact in rural communities by promoting both social harmony and economic sustainability. The foundation is likely aiming to empower individuals within these communities, reduce poverty, and improve overall well-being by focusing on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Creating socially harmonious and financially viable communities frequently necessitates a multifaceted approach that addresses a variety of issues such as education, skill development, resource access, infrastructure, and local economic development. To tailor interventions effectively, it is critical to consider each community’s unique needs and challenges.

Sparsh Social Foundation’s Women Empowerment through Livelihood Generation Program is a critical initiative that aims to uplift and empower women in the communities they serve. Economic empowerment can help to promote gender equality and social development. This program provides women with opportunities to gain skills, training, and resources that will enable them to generate sustainable livelihoods.

Sayba and Leelawati’s story exemplifies how access to education, guidance, and support from the Sparsh Social Foundation and NABARD can have a life-changing impact.

Here’s a rundown of their adventure:

Sayba had completed her education up to the 12th grade but was not involved in any form of employment following her education. Sayba joined the Roji Self-Help Group in 2019 with the help of Sparsh Social Foundation. She was an active member of the SHG and practiced regular savings, which is an important aspect of SHGs. These savings help members establish a financial foundation from which to borrow and invest. Sayba completed a one-month stitching and tailoring training program through NABARD’s Micro-Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) Project in 2021.

This training most likely provided her with valuable occupational skills. Sayba received a loan from her SHG after completing her training to purchase two stitching machines, allowing her to launch her stitching and tailoring business. She started her stitching and tailoring business with the skills she had learned. Sayba not only earned money from her stitching work, but she also began teaching other young girls how to sew and tailor. Sayba’s perseverance and hard work paid off. She went from having no source of income to earning a substantial monthly income ranging from Rs. 20,000 to 25,000.

Finally, Sayba’s story demonstrates the power of education, skill development, and community support in uplifting people from disadvantaged backgrounds. It’s an uplifting example of how a combination of education, resources, and opportunities can result in a positive and long-term change in someone’s life.

Leelawati’s success story from Amroha’s Shahpur Kalan Village is an inspiring example of how self-help groups and entrepreneurship can transform lives. Leelawati’s family was entirely dependent on her husband’s income from a small shop, which amounted to approximately Rs.6,000-7,000 per month. This income was insufficient to meet the needs of the entire family. Leelawati aspired to be financially self-sufficient and contribute to her family’s income. She intended to accomplish this by starting her own business. She joined the Pratibha Self Help Group (SHG), a community-based organization that encourages regular savings and provides members with access to financial services and credit.
