ACC’s Bank Sakhi Program Economically Empowers Rural Women in Uttar Pradesh

Through the Bank Sakhi program, ACC, the cement and construction material subsidiary of the diversified Adani Group, has taken a huge step toward empowering rural women. This initiative aims to empower women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) in rural Uttar Pradesh with a sustainable source of income.

ACC and the Adani Foundation believe that economically empowering women is critical to the overall development of society. One such encouraging example is that of Ms. Wasima, a 37-year-old member of the ‘Malik Shah Baba’ SHG who has always wished to work in the banking industry. Through ACC’s bank initiative, the Bank Sakhi program, she discovered an opportunity to realize her aspirations. The program has played a critical role in increasing financial inclusion in communities. The Bank Sakhi program enables banks to hire third-party agents to provide banking and financial services in remote places on their behalf.

To promote secure transactions, this technique makes use of novel technology such as Micro-ATM units equipped with printers and biometric scanners, as well as mobile phones. In essence, the concept has aided in bringing banking services closer to underserved and distant locations, hence making financial services more accessible to a larger population.

Rubi’s journey as a Bank Sakhi for JEEViKA (NRLM) after satisfying all eligibility criteria is another proof to the program’s impact. JEEViKA provided training to her and eight other SHG members. ACC and the Adani Foundation have developed inclusive possibilities for rural women, allowing them to contribute to their communities’ financial well-being.

ACC, through its unique social value added initiatives in collaboration with the Adani Foundation, continues committed to generating sustainable possibilities for women in rural areas, with the ‘Bank Sakhi’ program demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and empowerment. It envisions a future in which rural women can attain economic independence while still contributing to their communities’ growth and development.
